12 Tips For Getting The Most Out Of Your Next Travel Experience

When it comes to travel, you always want to enjoy yourself right? Travel is something that we do to enrich and nourish our lives in some way, shape, or form. So you never really want to find your travels tough or stressful. But we all know that planning a trip can be exactly that at times..stressful. Thereā€™s just something about trying to find the right places and figuring out what you want to do that can be tough. So instead of letting yourself get worked out about your travel plans, youā€™re going to want to do things in a way that makes the entire thing much more enjoyable. And the way to do that, is to make sure that youā€™re really going to love the travel experience itself.

How many times have you planned a trip, only to find that itā€™s not quite what you expected? Or to get home and realize that you missed out on a few things that you really wanted to do or see? Well, when youā€™re heading somewhere new, and youā€™re not so sure if youā€™ll be able to get back there, you want to ensure that youā€™ve made the most of your time, seen everything that you wanted to see, and really had an overall great time. So here are twelve tips to help you plan to do exactly that.

Do Your Research

First of all, youā€™re going to want to make sure youā€™re doing your research. This is likely to be something that you either love to do, or youā€™re not too keen on (personally I hate it). But it is the one thing that will give you a good foundation for planning your trip. As you research, you need to be thinking about where to go, and what kind of location or trip is going to satisfy your current travel needs. Are you looking for a beach, city life/night life, mountainscapes, etc.

Check Social Media

As part of the research process, and to help you double check everything that youā€™re doing, youā€™re going to want to think about heading to social media to do some research. Right now, itā€™s safe to say that social media and travel are heavily connected. You can definitely head to Instagram or Facebook or your social platform of choice and start to uncover great tips and ideas for where to go, where to stay, and what to do when youā€™re in a certain location.

Choose The Best Time To Go

From here, youā€™re then going to want to figure out the best time to go both schedule-wise and optimal weather for that location throughout the year. Now, for a lot of people, they will pick a time of year that they want to take holiday, and then find somewhere to go within that time frame. This can translate into a trip that isnā€™t really ideal. So instead, think about doing it the opposite way. Research where you want to go, then look into when the best time to go there is (not going in the rainy season). This will ensure that you have a great time.

Time Your Flights Well

From here, youā€™re then going to want to make sure that you pick out the perfect time to fly. And for two reasons. The first is so that you can get a good price for the flight, but thatā€™s not all. If you time your flight well, youā€™ll be able to arrive at the accommodation at the best time to make the most of your day, or get to sleep so that youā€™re refreshed for the next day.

Consider Different Accommodation Types

Next, youā€™ll need to decide on your choice of accommodation. Consider the different options that are available to you. From a condominium in Singapore to a hut in the Maldives, you may want to be open-minded here. Even if youā€™re used to hotel living, just think about how different types of accommodation can add to the overall experience – like an AirBnb!

Choose The Right Location

Youā€™ll also want to make sure that youā€™re choosing the right location. Here, not only is the right area of the country important, but the actual area that youā€™re staying in too. Think about where you want to be in order to see everything that you want to, and have the opportunity to make the most out of your experience.

Write A List

Next up, itā€™s time to come up with a travel itinerary that helps you to figure out what youā€™re going to do while youā€™re there. Some people will prefer the idea of just getting there and seeing whatā€™s around, but this isnā€™t the best way to get the most out of your experience. Instead, youā€™ll want to make sure that you note down the things that you want to see and do, so that youā€™re able to get it all done.

Know Where To Eat

From here, youā€™ll then need to think about the incredible restaurants that you want to eat at (I’m a total foodie!). And there are likely to be many in the area. Just make sure that part of your research allows you to uncover some of the best places to eat in the area. From fine dining to local casual places, think about where you want to eat at to get the most out of your experience.

Call Ahead

If you really want to be sure that you have everything you need when youā€™re ready to arrive, make sure that you call your accommodation or hotel before you get there. Whether you have specific requirements or not, itā€™s often useful to confirm your booking, ask any questions you have, and generally be sure that theyā€™re ready for your arrival so that there are no issues when you get there.

Pack Well

You do also have to be sure that you have everything you need. This means that youā€™ll want to take extra care when packing your suitcase. Not only so that youā€™re sure you have the clothing you need, but any medical supplies or things that will make you comfortable during the travel process itself. I’m a terrible packer, I pack WAY too much from over-planning.

Take It Easy

One of the best ways to really get the most out of your trip is to stay quite organized. As much as you may want to go out and enjoy yourself by having a few drinks or enjoying the nightlife, if you know that you want to get as much into your travel plans as possible, then you canā€™t realistically do this – at least not overboard. Instead, just take it easy and try to avoid having too many late nights. Hydrate well. Early mornings are important here if you want to be able to make the most of your days.

Ask For Recommendations

Another really good tip is just to ask for the best recommendations. We all know that research is really great. You can get a good feel for a place by reading up on it before you go. But at the same time, research can lack that personal touch. So when youā€™re there, why not think about asking for recommendations from the concierge if youā€™re staying in a hotel, or even any locals that you get speaking to. You may even want to think about asking the question on somewhere like Instagram to see if you get any tips back – hello IG stories!
