Achieving That Youthful, Toned Look with NuFace

We’re all constantly in search of tips, tricks, and hacks to look our best selves and appear younger, fresher, and more rested. Or is that just me? I won’t sit here and deny that I get botox or slight lip fillers – I love them both dearly – but I’ve found using the NuFace facial toning device makes my Botox last much longer AND adds a tighter and more lifted appearance.

Why the Need?

People like to ask when they should start incorporating anti-aging products into their skincare regimens or routines: the answer is yesterday! Naturally we’re born with an abundance of collagen in our skin as with anything else.. we’re brand spankin’ new! As time progresses, the production of collagen in the body begins to markedly slow in our 20’s and even more dramatically decreases after age 30. From there, the collagen levels in our skin begin to drop by 1-2% each year – hence why I religiously add a scoopful of this to my coffee each morning.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies and is found in things like connective tissues. It’s what gives our skin elasticity and its youthful appearance – aka it holds things together and gives our skin its structure.

What’s the Claim?

The NuFace device (I use the NuFace trinity found here) is a micro-current delivery device that stimulates the skin. It aids in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, smoother skin, facial toning and contouring by delivering impulses to the facial muscles. Hello face workout sesh! These stimulations spark up collagen and elastin production to help restore that desirable youthful glow!

My Review

I’ve been using the device for over a year, initially about 3-4 nights a week but now more like once a week. I absolutely love it. I was reading various reviews and testimonials on Sephora’s website and laughed (and eye-rolled) regarding a comment from an older woman bashing 20-30 year olds for using the device because, what’s the need? I highly disagree with her snarky point of view because a) we’re all entitled to feel like we need a little attention to any area we deem necessary and b) prevention is everything! Sure, a 25 year old might not have markedly defined wrinkles, but the device and complimentary skin care will aid in lessening any lines they do have and prevent them from becoming deeper down the line. Geez people! Personally I would much MUCH rather manage my little wrinkles while they’re fine than have them turn into wrinkles that requires lots more attention. My skin plays a big role in my self esteem!

Initially I had been noticing some sagging of my cheeks – super uncool of my body to do so without my permission but when do our bodies EVER ask permission? The sagging cheeks run in the women of my family so I wasn’t surprised to see it trying to make its debut. Between the device and using my ice roller I visibly see a huge difference! I also like to keep my cheekbones nice and defined, and lift my forehead/eyebrows with consistent use. I use it for about 5 minutes each time.

Be sure to always upward swipes – you don’t want to be pulling your skin downwards.

What I do like about the NuFace trinity is the ability to easily turn up or down the intensity. It feels like just a tiny tingle with the proper amount of gel base but given other things I’ve done to my body, the tingle isn’t even remotely bothersome. If you feel more than just a teeny tingle, you need to add more gel to your face.

Be sure to use a gel with the device. NuFace does sell their own or you can use something as simple as aloe vera. You don’t want to be “tugging” on your face with the device without something for it to glide over.

Word of Warning

Do NOT and I repeat do NOT run the device over your thyroid gland. The thyroid is located direct center of your neck, you can even palpate it! It’s shaped like a little butterfly. Running the device over your thyroid can result in angry irritation and rashes. Be sure to read the device directions thoroughly and of course report any abnormalities to your care provider.

  2. I’ve heard about this device a handful of times, but I’ve never tried it. I’ve always been so picky about the products and tools I use on my skin. But reading your review certainly has me interested!
