bahamian babe
I know, this is extremely overdue. story of my life.
For those of you who haven’t been to the Bahamas, you need to put it on your to-do list. For those who have.. you know it’s a beautiful place.
This year we went during the week of my birthday but we’ve been so many times I can hardly keep track. Charlie’s family are world travelers, his parents both speak multiple languages which blows my mind. I’m lucky to Ā be grossly familiar but not quite fluent in Spanish and have dappled into learning a wee bit of French. The mastery of languages to me is so very impressive!
Amongst their worldly adventures, they visit the Bahamas each year and stay at the Atlantis. I’ve now been on the trip at least 5 times.. and each time is lovelier than the last. The main reason I adore staying at Atlantis is it’s pretty much everything you need in one basket. Pools, beach fronts, amazing food, the marina, the casino, the spa, shopping.. you name it, they have it. We typically stay in the Reef tower which is the furthest from the main tower, but also the quietest. More than anything, I relish the opportunity to completely veg out and not be surrounded by a lot of ruckus and party people. (I told you I’m pretty much a senior citizen in a 30 something body).
Isn’t the view gorgeous?
You can see the water slides in the middle and the Cove tower on the right.
When we go to the Bahamas around New Years, we get to see the Junkanoo festival which, by the way, is insanely fun! Throughout the rest of the year the Junkanoo winners parade their amazingly colorful costumes nightly (or at least on the weekends) at the marina. Aren’t they dazzling?
Our first night there we dined at one of my favorite spots, Cafe Martinique, a Jean-Georges restaurant. The Cafe is located in the Marina Village and is a short shuttle ride or walk away. The decor mixes old world vibes with modern luxury. My favorite part happens to be the table side Irish coffees, yum! The sugar is toasted onto the rim while the liquor is lit aflame, it’s a rather beautiful addition to the experience.
This Free People slip dress is sold out but here are a few similar styles here and here.
The turquoise waters never cease to render me speechless. Life is so beautiful here. Occasionally you can catch a glimpse of the massive cruise ships floating by.
This pom pom wide brim stole my heart the moment I saw it. I just adore it. Lace up swim suits also add some pizzazz to any beach getaway. Here are a few from the same line, this and this.
Isn’t this cover up to die for? It’s like pom pom heaven.
Scattered throughout the resort are various aquariums and sea life exhibits. One of my favorites are the sea turtles, who are all rescues! I remember years ago when there were only maybe 7 and now I counted over 20! This year we happened to walk by just in time for feeding and boy did they remind of a bunch of hungry stray cats! I’ve never seen turtles so rowdy! Another cool thing, the turtles lay eggs on their own little beach. Each night, the staff looks for a new nest to excavate in order to make room for other nests. The eggs are relocated to another safe beach where the babies can hatch and make their way to the waves. Isn’t that cool?!
A few years ago (before we were marrie aw!) we spent a day with the dolphins, also a highly recommended experience!
We have also ventured to Exuma, the island of the swimming pigs. You take a (rather fast) cigarette boat out to the island and typically are greeted by native pigs. I don’t know about you but those tusks look not so friendly to me. You also stop along the way to a smaller island FILLED with iguanas and feed them grapes. Although the concept seemed fun, these iguanas were so overfed they wanted NOTHING to do with us. I was somewhat offended by their lack of enthusiasm.
If you guys didn’t see this on my instagram.. this is my personalized (and most favorite) hat. Check out Hats by Olivia on Etsy to have your own made! You can also find her instagram page here! The little flamingo just kills me, I love it!! You can find my Kate SpadeĀ bikini here and Quay sunnies here.
This Mystique tote is back in stock & seriously gives me life. I love the tiny little poms and rainbow theme. So. Dang. Cute! The Nannacay pom pom Killa earrings are out of stock but here a few similar earrings: this and this. My Karina Grimaldi off the shoulder topĀ I found at L Bartlett Boutique andĀ Ā is an absolute must. It also comes in white and is such a versatile piece when it comes to mixing with fun color palettes! And these shoes.. can we talk shoes for a second? I love Dolce Vita not only for their style, but also their price points. It’s a win/win! Find mine here and check out the same style in a fun tribal print!
p.s. Do I hear festival ideas? These shoes will fit right in!
Show me your Mumu is another favorite brand of mine. Their prints are always adorable and well put together. I’ve yet to find something of theirs I didn’t immediately need! Find the top here and bottoms here. I styled this outfit with blush Marc Fisher sandals, Karen Walker sunnies, a fun sun hat, and a nice pink sunburn/glow.
Hot days call for popsicles, and cute cover ups!
This lace up Show me your Mumu dress I could wear every day. It’s incredibly light and the back is just gorgeous. I bought it at L Bartlett but you can also find it here.Ā Straw clutches also seem to mix well with beach date nights.
This slinky little number also came from L Bartlett. The top is actually a bathing suit, but lemme tell ya it was so amazingly comfortable! You can find both pieces here and here, the clutch came from here on Etsy. These beautiful purple Shahsi earrings are unfortunately sold outĀ back in stock!! Find my Steve Madden heels here (and they go with everything!).
I own these tassels in this amazing pink and also a striking blue that you might have seen in this blog post. Unfortunately they are sold out but here are similar styles: one, twoĀ (14$!!), and three. You can shop my Misa top at L Bartlett, or here and Sam Edelman sandals here. OH and how cute are the matching shorts?!
As long as this post was, I don’t feel like I’ve fully covered everything. Please send your questions along my way!
Gosh, it looks heavenly! I really hope I’ll get to visit there with my husband some day. š
