That 70’s feeling | how to dress the decade without the cliche
Happy Monday to you all! Since it’s so difficult to start the week, why not fantasize in a little time travel? The fall lineup is loaded with tons of 70’s vibes and I couldn’t be more excited! The colors, the patterns, the oversized glasses and accessories – it’s all SO fun! I say this mostly because I was an 80’s baby who never enjoyed the infamous decade of flared jeans and free spirits – but I can relish in the fashion when it resurfaces from time to time.
From what I’ve gathered of the decade, the mantra was about embracing life to the fullest, promoting peace, love, and happiness, and above all – dancing to the beat of your own drum –Ā so much yes. If you didn’t catch my last post on self love and addressing negativity, you can find it here.Ā One of my favorite quotes ever and something I think this entire world can learn a lesson from:
Be groovy or leave, man – Bob Dylan
When I think of dressing up for the 70’s, images of “flower power” and platform go-go boots immediately come to mind. While I’m all for bell bottoms and flared sleeves, I’ll leave the loud flower power behind for halloween. I found this Karina Grimaldi dress at my local L.Bartlett boutique and just about fell in love. The chiffon softness has such a romantic feel and reminds me of a parachute up in the sky. Also – isn’t the crossbody the cutest?! If you’re in the market for a trendy purse that doesn’t break the bank, my friends at Mellow World have you covered! This bag comes in a variety of colors, I just adore the tassels! Also – I’ve got my eye on this insanely fun green crossbody – isn’t she gorgeous?! Her name is Sandra.. oh Sandra Dee.. now I want to watch Grease!
So.. You’re probably asking what do I do then to dress the part? Many pieces do the job for you without needing to overly accessorize. High-waisted paints or flared pants and bell sleeve tops or a dress with knee high boots or wedges, the choices are endless. It’s all about pairings and colors!

OOoh i love all those colours going on!
Love the dress and your hair, and those loose pants reminded me of That 70`s Show.
Those shoes are super cute. I love that they would make me look taller. The 70’s definitely had some cute styles. Loving the purse as well.
Love this style !!! I always enjoy a 70s theme outfit ! Very cute and chic
I love the 70s, especially the music. Like you though, I’ve always been wary of trying 70s fashion trends just in case it turns a bit fancy dress. I think you captured the era brilliantly though and those shoes are beautiful! Thanks for sharing, Leanne x
Love all the details! And your lashes are total goals!
I love the 50s!!! But I always feel weird dressing that way. Thanks for the advice!
Those wedges are to die for!! ???? I love your style! I’m not a huge fan of the 70’s style but you made so chic that now I want to give a try! ????
Such a fun style!! I absolutely love that bag, it is amazing! ????????
Great post! I’m more of a 50s fan than the 70s, but some of your selections look so good!
Love the way you styled these looks! I’m always curious how to dress inspired by a certain decade without looking costume-y. Thanks for sharing!
Really cute outfit. I always love the 70’s fashion. The fashion is unisex and not feminine nor masculine unlike other fashions beforehand where there was a defiant line.
Love this super cute outfit!!
love these pointers!
