Friday Feels in Fishnet | Giving back to Harvey
Where to even begin with this post? My Texas is in so much pain right now and it breaks my heart. The wrath of Hurricane Harvey has devastated much of Houston, the greater surrounding areas, and portions of southern Louisiana – snatching away homes, dreams, and situations beyond my comprehension.
When I see the world hurting in such a grand scale – my heart just hearts, and my problems suddenly seem so silly and trivial compared to those who literally just had their worlds washed out to sea. What does lift my spirits though, is the overwhelming commitment humanity has in uplifting those who have suffered such monstrous atrocities. The entire state of Texas has seemingly hitched up their pick-up trucks and boats and gone to the rescue! Images of police men heading cattle and livestock, human chains being formed to rescue people and animals in danger – it completely restores my faith in humanity and my soul sings with so much joy. No longer do we argue due to color, race, or creed – we have come together to save each other asĀ humans.
There are still multitudes of charities and organizations gathering their resources to help those in need from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. One of my favorites is Amazon – where you can send essentials from the Red Cross wishlist to those who need it most, how amazing is that? I am an Amazon junkie – so adding to my cart is as easy as pie!
Also – think smart. Unfortunately times of crisis bring out some really crap people and scams run wild. If you’re selflessly giving to those in need, check to make sure it’s a credible source. This is a great checklist to help protect yourself from the Federal Trade Commission. You’re golden if you’re sticking to big names like the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Save the Children, the United Way, etc.
Do you have more helpful tips on giving back? I want to hear them! And did you catch my post earlier this week on productivity? Find it here. I’ve been in a bit of a slump myself this week – I’d love to hear ideas on what content you’re wanting to read from me! Share those ideas with me in the comments below, and don’t be shy!

Gillian you are so right!
Oh hey, didn’t know you’re a fellow Texan! I’m from Houston, myself, so it’s nice that you put a lil blurb about it in the beginning of your post about the hurricane devastation. It really is horrible what happened and we must do whatever we can to ameliorate our home state! (BTW, I like your outfit – still has a summery vibe to it!)
Amazing pics of a gorgeous outfit! I am so so sorry what happens to Houston right now. I am actually reading a book about a Hurricane tragedy and I started it before it actually happened in real world! I send energy and love across the pond and I hope you are safe!
That outfit is so beautiful, I love those roses! And you found perfect earrings for it!
I think it’s fantastic that you’re giving advice for people not to get suckered into the scams… I think that hasn’t been said enough recently.
I just love the fact that the animals have got a lot more awareness during this emergency. It’s been all over the English news. Thank you for raising awareness and your two-piece looks amazing!
My husband and I were just discussing where we should send money. We’ll probably go with Red Cross since that’s where I usually donate anyway, but good to know about Amazon! We can do both.
