32 Things for my 32nd Birthday | Getting to know Me

Birthdays to me are truly precious – it’s a very cliche thing to sayĀ you never know how much time you have, but I’ve worked with enough patients and unexpected death to know the adage stands true. February 8th marked my 32nd birthday – I swear I was just turning 18.. and then 21.. just days ago! What happens to the time?

I spent this birthday flying to NYC for my first time at NYFW. While fashion week was certainly an added bonus, it was really just a great excuse to get up to NYC for a few days. I met a few brands, saw a few shows and had a great time – but I don’t know if it’s something I’ll repeat again. I talk about it a lot in my InstaStories, but IĀ hateĀ being disappointed in people. NYFW is packed with influencers, bloggers, vloggers, and celebs galore but when did it become about the people and not about the art of fashion? At one of the runway shows I went to, I was super stoked to see the name of an influencer sitting directly across from me. I have followed her for ages before I even started blogging and was looking forward to meeting her. To my disgust, she was one of the most self-obsessed and snobbish individuals I’ve encountered in a long time – she had no time for anyone she didn’t see as an advantage to her. Behavior like that makes me vomit in my mouth – get over yourself! You’re no better a person or than any person simply because you’re a successful influencer.Ā Remember your roots.

Rant aside – my NYC escapade was enough to make me miss home, my pups, and the wide open space of Texas. I get random little Q&A’s occasionally on Instagram but I thought I would take an opportunity to tell you all a little bit more about me – the little things.

  • First impressions mean everything to me. It’s what people remember!
  • I love change. Whether it’s my hair, eye color, new cuisines – I live for it.
  • Both of my parents grew up extremely poor. They made themselves into everything they are.
  • I never played a sport growing up. I wasĀ extremelyĀ dedicated to ballet.
  • I never learned how to skate (roller/ice). My ballet teacher didn’t allow it.
  • Skiing/snow boarding was also discouraged. Didn’t want to risk getting injured.
  • I have always loved dressing up. My cousin and I used to raid my grandma’s closet!
  • I also raided her make up drawer. Purple/green/blue eyeshadows were where it’s at!

  • IĀ love apples and peanut butter. It’s my favorite snack! Especially honey crisp apples!
  • Charlie and I are both avid movie buffs – although I’m not huge on horror.
  • I also really love historical documentaries. History is so interesting and enriching.
  • I have an extreme fear of spiders – I nearly died from a brown recluse bite.
  • I’d rather spend a night in with a book, a bubble bath and some wine than go out.
  • The older I get, the more I can’t stand being in large crowds of people. Total cranky pants!
  • My marriage hasn’t been perfect, but I’m thankful for our struggles. We are unshakeable.
  • I really want children, but am so sick of people asking when. It will happen when it’s meant to.

  • I cry at the most sappy of things. Movies, commercials, books, cuteness in general. Huge sap.
  • Scented candles make me so happy and cozy. I can never have enough.
  • I also can never have enough coffee mugs – the cuter the better.
  • I love my coffee in the mornings but I’m totally in love with Harney & Sons Tea. So delish!
  • I take long drives on sunny days just to sing in the car with the top open.
  • I’m supremely susceptible to the energies around me. I try to surround myself with positivity! Remember my post on depression?
  • If I hear you chewing or smacking (gross) I will either move away from you or scold you. It’s my biggest pet peeve.
  • I miss having a garden. Growing roses and watching the hummingbirds was my favorite!

  • I’d rather travel to the beach than any place cold – total warm weather creature.
  • I sleep the best during thunderstorms, the sound is so peaceful.
  • I have a select group of close friends, and they are the most genuine of beings.
  • I always try to put myself in another’s shoes. Never judge if you haven’t walked their path.
  • The best feeling in the world is knowing you’ve made someone’s life better, if even just a little.
  • I’ve held the hands of dying patients – whose faces I’ll never forget. To comfort someone on the brink of death is extremely humbling and the most compassionate of moments I’ve lived in.Ā be kind to your nurses.
  • I think some bloggers are completely full of shit. Find the good ones, weed out the vain.
  • I secretly want a pet flamingo, to ride an ostrich, and hold a penguin. (The cuteness yall).

Tell me some random things about you! I LOVE finding out the little things!

  1. This is a great post and love how your personality shines through (making it original). Some random things about Me? I’m 18 and am a student blogger, I’m not a stereotypical teen (I’m not into makeup and fashion but love homeware and helping people), I’ve been blogging since age 10/11 and want to pursue blogging and making YouTube videos as a career.

  2. Hi, I am from the other side of the world and have zero fashion sense, but I really liked your little tidbits. We have our own version of India fashion week here and I’m sure it is also filled with same bunch of snooty influencers.

  6. I relate to so many of these: bring on the change and don’t touch my candle stash! Haha You wrote about having a pet flamingo. I desperately want chickens and goats. SO badly! Haha

  7. I love movies also! It’s probably one of my favorite pastimes — going to the movies was something I did with my dad as a kid and I still enjoy hitting up the cinemas every now and again. Like you, I also am not too big on horror; I don’t get the appeal of being scared.

    Happy birthday! x

  8. Awww, I love your post.
Lots of love from out here in Qatar. Itā€™s so funny how words resonate, no matter where you are or who you are … in the words of Sting ā€œ there is no monopoly on common senseā€

    Keep being you.

  9. Well I wish I would have meet you during NYFW and happy belated b-day.
Yes those influencers who are snobby I stay far away from. Itā€™s a shame that they do that itā€™s very silly. Hopefully you give NYC a try again we Bloggers arenā€™t all like that. And NYFW is very awesome if you connect with the right people.
