How A Man Should Get Ready For Something Formal
Doesnāt matter if it’s a dinner party, a graduation, a job interview or even a when youāre appearing on TV, a manās formal preparation will show. Donāt worry too much about the little things, like what color your suit it, or what kind of knot you have your tie in, focus on the basics. Just because they are basic, doesnāt mean they canāt be done well. In fact, the mark of someone that is stylish, will show up in the way he handles the basics of his style. And, thankfully these are understood all over the world so you donāt need to worry about crossing cultures and not doing enough or doing too little. When you are going to something formal, you want to have two things in mind when it comes to the way you dress. Behold yourself to some kind of tradition and be sharp. So if you like a particular kind of shoe, then wear them how theyāre supposed to be worn; such as the tying of shoelaces, colors, and materials. Be clear-cut, with rough edges smoothed out.
No end should droop
How do you look crisp and sharp? Well, a lot of it had to do with the substance of your dress, such as ironing out the creases in your shirt, suit and trousers. However what immediately gives off a look of fashionable style is being clear-cut around the edges. No end should be drooping, meaning your sleeves, shirt collar, trouser leg and cuffs should be straight. A simple way to do this is to iron your clothes multiple times but letting them rest in between each time. Steaming the ends is a good idea as evaporating any moisture trapped in them from the washing machine or rainwater will be kicked out. It sounds simple, but donāt disturb the clothes youāre going to be wearing at a formal event until the day youāre going. Donāt move the clothes around too much or accidently bump into them, because keeping the shape for a long as possible help the fabric to set.

Donāt be plain Jane
Wearing a nice formal suit is something that will be expected of you. When youāre going to a job interview or even a business meeting, you need to go the extra mile in order to impress. By itself, most suits will look plain because they are designed in such a way that allows for the wearer to be creative. A pocket square is something that adds a little extra much-needed style to your attire, and it achieves this by asking very little from you. Just pick out the color that will go well with your suit color, and by that, try to contrast them if you can. For example, if youāre wearing a blue suit, a white pocket square stands out and grabs the attention of the person youāre interacting with. On the other hand a blue suit with a green pocket square doesnāt really go, because the colors melt into each other.
Folding a pocket square is yet another layer of your style and if done correctly, shows confidence and a side of your personality. Learning how to do the folds is easy, just follow the step by step guide and you can have whatever kind of style you want. If youāre stoic and traditional, a classic fold is suited to you, but if you want something lavish and eccentric then a reverse puff or angled peak are folds you may want to try.

Looking down
How a manās feet look isnāt something thatās new. Although there may be a sneaker trend in modern menās fashion, thatās actually a byproduct of formal attire. Menās shoes are very important in high-end fashion but it’s not usually what kind of style or material they are that matters to most people. Actually, just the way they are presented matters as stylish shoes that look dull and uncared for will look worse than an out of fashion pair that do look great. So, learn how to polish your shoes and take your time doing it. The show needs to go through several processes before you can get the absolute best shine from them. Technique play the biggest role as how you treat your shoes with your actions will determine how well whatever product you use on them will perform.
If you can do the basics well, you already have a grasp of what the advanced style items will do for your formal attire. The suit needs to be anything but plain, so figure out your pocket square approach. Iron out the creases but also, sharpen up the ends of your clothes but properly steaming them. If anyone does look you head to toe, assure them that you compliment your shoes just as much as your hairstyle.

This was a really helpful read – and coincidental timing as I just got my fiancĆ©’s suit in the mail today for an at-home try-on to confirm the fit. We weren’t entirely sure about a couple things, but now I know exactly what to change and what to keep the same. Thanks!
