Restylane® Kysse – The Most Kissable Lip Filler You Never Knew You Wanted
This post was sponsored by Galderma and does not constitute medical advice. My personal story and opinions are my own. While I am a medical professional, please talk with your healthcare provider about your individual medical situation.
I’m no stranger to aesthetic enhancements, many of which I’ve written about previously or openly discussed on Instagram. To be perfectly clear before jumping into this new product review and experience, I want to reiterate that my review does not stand to say anyone NEEDS to do undergo any of these cosmetic procedures, rather this is my experience and how I personally prefer to maintain and touch up my own looks. That being said, lip injections have quickly become the most popular non-surgical cosmetic enhancement.1 Restylane® Kysse is the newest lip filler on the market. Restylane® Kysse – That New New
The exciting thing about Restylane® Kysse lip filler is that it is a hyaluronic acid lip filler. Restylane® Kysse is designed to enhance lip volume (obviously), but also reduces the appearance of fine lines above the upper lip and provides a natural look and feel.2 Restylane® Kysse is the first hyaluronic acid lip filler formulated with XpresHAn Technology™. XpresHAn Technology™ allows individuals to maintain their natural-looking expressions which is the ultimate goal, yes?4,5
Restylane® Kysse provides a soft and natural look and feel for those who aren’t keen to reveal they’ve had aesthetic procedures done (which is totally your business to disclose or not). 2,6 In fact, most partners agreed that once their partner was treated with Restylane® Kysse, their lips had a kissable and natural feel. 6 Galderma’s first-of-a-kind phase IV study evaluated partner satisfaction and results showed 98% of subjects were very satisfied or satisfied with the kissability of their lips after treatment. 6 90% of partners were satisfied with the appearance of their partners’ lips after treatment with Restylane® Kysse. 6
My Procedure & Experience
It’s time to kiss and tell! This isn’t my first rodeo with lip filler. It’s been a little over two years since they were last enhanced, and I have to say – this was like night and day in so many ways. I went to see Dr. Lori Stetler at Dallas Center for Dermatology & Aesthetics.
I arrived 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment so topical lidocaine could be applied to my lips to numb them. Trust me, lip injections are NOT something you want done without numbing. Obviously I could not wear a mask while I was numbing or during the procedure, but all of the staff, including Dr. Stetler wore masks, gloves, and face shields. All rooms were disinfected after each patient departed.
Dr. Stetler and I had an extensive conversation about the result I wanted and what was possible with the shape of my natural lip. It’s very important to do your reach and pick a well-accredited provider when it comes to anything invasive. Look at their previous work and be sure to thoroughly browse their reviews. A KEY fact to remember is just because someone says they’re able to do injections does NOT mean they do them WELL. You also want to be able to openly discuss your goals with your provider including what you don’t want. A clear and definitive conversation is the best way for both parties to achieve your overall goal.
Dr. Stetler and I discussed all expectations including how long Restylane® Kysse is intended to last. This is my first time using Restylane® Kysse – so that’s tbd for me personally – but it is proven to last for up to 1 year.2,7
Lip Shape
You can do a browser search to look at various lip shapes. Some of us are born with thin lips, whereas others have overly accentuated top or bottom lips or even a more prominent cupid’s bow. For me, I prefer a symmetrical look that doesn’t over accentuate the upper or lower lip, rather just a plumper look all around without overly dramatic changes. Some common concerns when considering lip filler is being landed with a pair of duck lips. As I said above, it’s CRUCIAL to speak very openly with your provider/injector not only about your goals, but also what is ideal for your natural lip shape. Start small and work your way up. It’s much easier to add more, rather than take away. That being said, you might be wondering what happens if you ultimately don’t like the result, so let’s discuss. If you find yourself still wanting more – tell that to your injector and work with them to get your desired result. Remember filler isn’t permanent and any adjustments should be discussed with your provider.
Some Final Thoughts
Everyone always wonders, does getting lip filler hurt? I’ll be honest, it’s not a comfortable experience, no filler is absolutely free of discomfort – some pain is to be expected. I will say, however; Restylane® Kysse is formulated with lidocaine, so it BARELY hurt! The topical lidocaine cream does a great job numbing the lip surface, while the lidocaine in the formula numbs as it is being injected!
Another possibility to be prepared for is the likelihood of some bruising. I usually bleed/bruise a tiny bit no matter what I’m having done. That being said, if possible, it is best to avoid things like ibuprofen, caffeine, alcohol, fish oil, and certain vitamins prior to your appointment. Call your office before your appointment to go over any questions!

My Results
Dr. Stetler used 3/4 of a syringe for my lips. These are before and after results – immediately after the procedure. In terms of aftercare, it’s important to avoid strenuous workouts for the next day! You want to avoid anything that promotes excess blood flow to your face, which can contribute to swelling. You can apply an ice pack to your lips to help decrease swelling.
Important Safety Information
Indication: Restylane® Kysse is indicated for injection into the lips for lip augmentation and for correction of upper perioral rhytids in patients over the age of 21.
Restylane® Kysse contains traces of gram-positive bacterial protein and is contraindicated for patients with allergies to such material or for patients with severe allergies that have required in- hospital treatment. Restylane® Kysse should not be used by patients with bleeding disorders, with hypersensitivity to amide-type local anesthetics, such as lidocaine, or by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Use of Restylane® Kysse at the site of skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts, or infection should be postponed until healing is complete. The most commonly observed side effects are swelling, tenderness, bruising, pain, and redness at the injection site. These are typically mild in severity and usually resolve within 7 days after treatment. Serious but rare side effects include delayed onset infections, recurrence of herpetic eruptions, and superficial necrosis and scarring at the injection site. Do not implant into blood vessels. Use with caution in patients recently treated with anticoagulant or platelet inhibitors to avoid bleeding and bruising.
Treatment volume should be limited to 1.5 mL per lip per treatment and 1.0 mL for upper perioral rhytid correction, as greater amounts significantly increase moderate and severe injection site reactions. The safety or effectiveness of treatment in areas other than lips and upper perioral rhytids has not been established in controlled clinical studies.
Restylane® Kysse is only available through a licensed practitioner. Complete Instructions for Use are available at www.RestylaneKysse.com.
