Tasty Treats – Get to know Steel City Pops
It’s no secret I’m an insatiable sweet tooth (remember my first trip to visit a local Dallas dessert site) – you name a sweet treat and I’m most likely an avid fan. I’m really not a picky eater anyway but when it comes to desserts I welcome them all! While I have no qualms with finding your favorite desserts while browsing in the grocery store, I’m a huge supporter of supporting local businesses – after all, I come from a family with their own hometown businesses, restaurant included.
Dallas is like a foodie heaven. I actually think it’s more desirable than New York City – the restaurant/food scene here is so diverse with the added bonus of endless delivery apps for when you need to kick back and relax. One of my most favorite discoveries in the Dallas food world is Steel City Pops, a popsicle-filled shop of wonders.
Surprisingly, Steel City Pops was actually founded in Alabama – Homewood to be exact. Their little hometown storefront WOWed the crowds, and soon enough sent them expanding into Dallas and beyond. There are over 20 locations across Texas and Alabama – one more reason it’s a beautiful thing to be from the South. If you venture into the Dallas location on Greenville Ave, you’ll see a mural on the wall. It’s actually a blend of the Birmingham (aka Steel City) and Dallas skylines. Isn’t that cool? It’s like a little handshake between our two great states.
I’ll just be blunt here and put it all on the table – the popsicles are INCREDIBLE yall. If ever I have friends/family/etc visting me – we always go to Steel City Pops for a little indulgence. Their menu changes with the seasons so there’s always an element of surprise! They do keep some flavors always on hand, like Strawberry Lemonade (their best seller!). They also have a pop of the month – how fun right? February’s pop was chocolate-covered cherry sour cream (seriously so decadent and flavorful) and March’s monthly pop is Coconut Cream Pie which is a coconut pop, dipped in white chocolate, and sprinkled with bits of graham cracker and coconut flakes. I devoured it in about two minutes, no shame! Both are pictured below – aren’t they tantalizingly gorgeous?
My trip to Steel City Pops was one of the funnest days I’ve had in the longest time. Megan (my photographer) and I were greeted by an incredible staff and taste-tested just about everything on the menu. Taylor, who showed us around for the afternoon, was incredible! Super nice and didn’t judge my mouth drool over the gourmet popsicles.
Aside from their variety of flavors, there is a dipping station! Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and white chocolate to jazz up any choice and make it go KaBoom! in your mouth. Ā There are also several toppings to choose from (dredge) or dust onto your popsicle. Notice the half-dipped popsicle with a milk chocolate drizzle? So fancy!
Steel City Pops are all-natural, gluten free, and mostly dairy free. (There are some flavors that use dairy so make sure to ask). There are fruity varieties (like strawberry lemonade, mango habanero, hibiscus, etc.), creamy varieties (buttermilk, vanilla bean, banana, etc.) and cookie pops (with gluten free cookies inside) like amaretto cream, cookies & cream, and strawberry shortcake. They never ever use artificial sweeteners or preservatives, only using raw cane sugar. Many of their pops are also vegan friendly.
Price breakdown:
FRUITY & CREAMY POPS:Ā Ā $3.49 (+ TAX)
COOKIE POPS:Ā Ā $4.49 (+ TAX)
DIPPING AND/OR DRIZZLE & DREDGE: $1.25 (+TAX)

Iām from Birmingham, AL and we LOVE our Steel City Pops! My absolute favorite is Buttermilk! Sounds weird, buts itās so good ????
omg no way! I feel like we’re connected through SCP then! AND my fave is buttermilk too! It tastes so much like cheesecake to me, I love love it!!
I’m from Texas originally and there was a Steel City Pops in my hometown of Dallas. I never had one because I am extremely lactose intolerant, but they always looked so delicious! Whenever I’m back in Dallas I may just have to try SCP and deal with a stomachache!
Thanks for sharing! x
