Wednesday Wellness | Awaiting Autumn – 5 things I enjoy most

Now that Labor Day has come and gone – I feel like we can officially say we’re entering into in the autumn season. Labor Day always feels like a rite of passage into the changing of seasons, like an informal farewell to summer. I actually stepped outside my door this morning and could feel autumn attempting to sneak into the air here in Dallas. You know when you can just feel the air “click” ? Suddenly the air feels just a tiny bit cooler and it’s about 10 degrees today than yesterday … with zero humidity. My soul is dancing! I could just throw a blanket down in the park across the street and soak up this day (with sunscreen of course!)

Today’s Wednesday Wellness isn’t so much about something you should or shouldn’t be doing but more about taking the time to sit and enjoy – pausing in the comforts of life’s little moments. To me fall is filled with so many of those little moments that make you stop and breathe in the moment, which is why I’m sharing five things I’m looking most forward to this fall.

(Hot) Tea Time

I don’t think there’s a tea I don’t like. I do love my morning coffee but throughout the day while I’m working on homework or the blog I’m sipping on hot tea in one of my zillions of insanely adorable mugs. (If you guys come across a cute mug, by all means please send me the link!). Hot tea alone soothes my soul and herbal teas in all of their many varieties serve an abundance of purposes from headaches to aching bellies to restful sleep – you name it! I always add honey to my tea (sometimes more than I should) and I’m loving this new honey sent to me by Heavenly Organics – so yum! Their honey is sustainably harvested, protecting the livelihood of the bees – I love that! You can find their products lots of places, including Whole Foods, Sprouts and many other retailers. They also make dark chocolate treats — need I say more?

Cozy Layers

There’s something about nestling up with a blanket, an oversized shirt or sweater, and some socks, like these black & whites from my friends at Happy Socks! remember my previous post featuring their insanely fun printed socks? – turning on the Netflix (I’m currently binge watching Wentworth) – and spending a lazy Saturday with the fireplace on. I am always running a million miles a minute, when I finally have downtime, I use that downtime to its fullest advantage! Pop some pumpkin bread or banana nut bread in the oven — so much yes!!

Pumpkins(!!)

Now that Charlie is finally stationed closer to me and in a manageable driving distance, we can start enjoying all the little things we haven’t been able to do in years i.e. picking a pumpkin or two at the pumpkin patch and carving jack-o-lanterns. We’re also going to see the pumpkin/fall exhibit at the Dallas Arboretum this fall, I haven’t seen it in several years and I can’t wait to see it again!! They actually let the public take pumpkins from it so it’s better to go so it earlier in the season before it gets picked over. I’ll probably post our carved pumpkins for you guys to see – we’ll let it be a contest of skill šŸ™‚

Fall Candles

I would be a completely dishonest person if I didn’t include my undying love with fall scented candles. I’m a huge smelly-good candle junkie anyway but there’s something intoxicating about fall candles – they just give you all the warm fuzzies, am I right? I’ve already raided Bath & Body Works and bought SIX different candles.. might have a problem but I’m not at the point of admitting it quite yet. Favorite one so far: pumpkin cinnamon.. amazing. Also the almond candle is rather heavenly. When I’m reading I always have a candle lit and a cup of tea — it’s just divine you guys.

Family Time

This is the first fall season where I won’t be working – at least not full time anymore. I still have three jobs, one of which is new. I’m working the blog which is basically a full time gig, and I’m doing my doctoral student work plus clinicals – which is in itself a job, and now I’m a professor at a local nursing school here in Dallas (so excited!). With all of these things going on I am most definitely aĀ busy beeĀ but, I have so much more free time to enjoy life than I’ve ever known before. My nephew is playing fall ball this year with a local baseball team – I can’t wait to watch him play! He’s about to be 9 years old you guys – how?!? My brother is continuing to dominate the culinary industry here in Dallas, seeing his career unfold is just amazing. If you’re ever curious – go see him at Saint Ann or Mercat Bistro! Charlie and I have some very big things happening – more to come on that in a later post šŸ™‚

I just have so much love in my heart today – maybe because I slept like a freaking zombie for once – but I’m in an exceptionally good mood and have so many things to look forward to and to share. I’d love to know your fall favorites – please share them with me! and as always – thank you for following! and p.s. need a little pep in your step? catch this post here.
